Sometimes I Smile Politely
Written and Performed by Ness Lyons
Directed by Tutku Barbaros
On the street, at school, in work or at home, there are times in a woman's life when she feels she has no choice but to smile politely … well sod that.
Sometimes I Smile Politely is a funny and moving spoken word show about learning to speak the fuck up and object to the objectionable.
The production is developed from Ness’s poem I Smile Politely about street harassment, which was performed to acclaim at the Southbank Centre's WOW Festival London 2016, and later adapted into a short film starring April Hughes.
Ness Lyons is a poet & playwright whose work has been performed at many London venues including the Criterion Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith, The Arcola Theatre and for Young Feminists London.
Ages 14+. 1 hour. In the OFS Loft. £8.
Tickets for Offbeat shows are available from both the Oxford Playhouse and Old Fire Station. If one seems to be sold out, please check the other - they may have tickets available!
Please note that there is no step-free access to the Loft.
